My new room's brilliant. There's a lot
of
natural light, and the window looks out
over the small garden. Virginia helped me move along
with her three brothers, John, William and
Stephen, all of them well-built, dark-haired and quiet. They
loaded all my boxes in the van belonging to
one of Miss Thomson's friends. In two hours, we'd already finished.
Virginia gave me a hand to tidy up
and clean the room that I was leaving, as well
as the new room I was moving into.
She was complaining, "Typical, I knew
they'd disappear as soon as the tidying
up needed to be done!" I was more than
happy that her brothers had helped with
the move. They didn't even know me. Miss Thomson made us
a cup of tea. Virginia thought she was a bit
odd, like a wicked witch out of some
fairy tale. I feel angry with myself, because I didn't stick up
for her. I suppose I'm sad that my friends didn't automatically
hit it off.
